Tomb of Uni Ufugushiku

On the back side of Chibana Gusuku down a quite and winding trail is the Tomb of Uni Ufugushiku. His real name was Kenyu Oshiro, but was giving the nickname of Uni Ufugashiku. He was one of Okinawa's greatest marshall artist. He created the Bo Kata Ufugushiku no Kun which has been passed down thru his family ( Oshiro Family ) for years.

He was great general for the King of Shuri Castle, he planned the battle for Katsurin Castle and overthrew Lord Amawari in 1458. Ufugushiku's troops Stormed the once thought to have been unpenetrable walls of Katsurin Jo. In the end it was Lord Amawari doing battle with Uni ufugushiku. He was no match for Ufugushiku's marsharll skill and Lord Amawamari lay dead in the main court yard of Katsurin jo. Uni Ufugushiku was rewarded with Control of Goeku district and give Chibana Gusuku. Where he lived and practiced Karate and lived by the bushido code Until his death.

Later on during the reigh of the First Shoshi the Goeku district went to ruin due to political change. Uni Ufugushiku blamed and expelled. Shorly after being expelled, he returned to Chibana Gusuku and committed suicide.

Note: If you go out to Chibana Gusuku, it is not recommed to go by yourself as there are alot of homeless people living in and around the site. I went by myself and did not have a problem.

Hey, I had some questions about your photo's. I was there 2 years prior to you in Feb '02. They have really cleaned it up a lot.

Where "other than the sign" did you get your information on Uni? Any sources I can look up?

Also, when facing the tomb, on the right side there is a stone tablet that I took 3 pictures of. You can see it in yours main picture of the tomb. It has five large characters at the top and then a lot of smaller writing. I took pictures from 3 angles hoping that when I got home I'd be able to try and interpret the writing. Regretfully I had a 35 mm and not digital or I'd of known that they didn't turn out. I was wondering if you had any luck with photographing it. Wish I'd taken something to rub.
