Sakura at Nakijin Castle

Today I spent most the afternoon at Nakijin Jo (castle). This is my favorite Castle (gusuku) in Okinawa. I try to go every year when then the spring time awakens the Sakura flowers. The Sakura where just starting to bloom, I think after one more week they will be in full bloom. If I have enough time I will try to make it back again to get more pictures in full bloom.

This year was big suprize. Last time I was at Nakijin Jo, the main parking lot was near the Heirou Gate. Now what used to be the parking lot is now being excavated. They have found a housing complex under the parking lot. The new find is dated back to the mid 1400's.

They have also cleaned up the area north of the old parking lot, clearing the undergrowth and revealing an outer wall I have not seen before.

They have also built a very nice Information Center and Museum.

Location: Nakijin Jo, Nakijin Okinawa Japan.
